ERC Advanced Grant for three NIOK members
Three NIOK members have been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant: Krijn de Jong (UU), Frank de Groot (UU) and Joost Reek. With the ERC Advanced grant, the scientists receive a funding of 2.5 million euros to spend on their research.
De Jong receives the grant for his research on the synthesis and use of nanoparticles as catalysts, in particular to investigate the genesis and dynamics of nanoparticles in the liquid phase. Read more here.
De Groot will use the grant to obtain an x-ray view of active sites. Using resonant inelastic x-ray scattering active sites can be made visible in the background of the obscuring silent majority.
Joost Reek wants to develop new ways to enhance the activity and selectivity of transition metal catalysts. Such metal complexes currently play an important role in the chemical industry as they facilitate the sustainable production of chemicals in bulk as well as in the fine chemicals and pharmaceutical industries.
