Professor Jaap Schouten (faculty Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, laboratory for Chemical Reactor Engineering) has been awarded an Advanced Grant by the European Research Council (ERC), in the area of “‘Physical Sciences and Engineering”.

The Advanced Grants, a personal grant for top European researchers, are awarded for the first time this year. The grants are meant to boost the level of research in Europe and to make Europe world leader in research. In this first round about 1000 proposals were submitted in the ‘Physical Sciences and Engineering’ domain, of which 105 have been awarded. The amount of money granted amounts to M€ 2 for a 5-year-period. This grant is the third major personal grant to stimulate the research of Jaap Schouten, after having received a Simon Stevin Meesterschap from Technology Foundation STW and a NWO TOP subsidy (both in 2006).
