Andreas Ehlers and Chris Slootweg report in J. Am. Chem. Soc (JACS) on CO2 activation and more. Andreas Ehlers, Chris Slootweg and colleagues from Muenster and Toulouse report in JACS on a unique Pt complex bearing a phosphorus/aluminium-based donor-acceptor ligand that enables the activation of CO2, CS2, H-H bonds (dihydrogen), and N-H bonds (benzamide). The experimental results are fully supported with DFT calculations highlighting that these remarkable activation reactions are made possible by the cooperative action of both the metal and the Lewis acidic moiety of the ligand, illustrating a new type of metal/ligand cooperativity.
